Amazon Underground – the new Free app of the Day feature

Amazon is attempting to change itself from within and it has apparently started with the Appstore. Enter Amazon Underground. The free App of the Day deal is gone, folks. This little deal event is being replaced with the Underground, where over 10,000 apps and games will be available for free.

Amazon underground

What does Amazon Underground mean?

This change will reflect on sales and overall popularity as Amazon is giving away paid apps and games with in-app purchases for free. Developers will be reimbursed based on actual app usage meaning if you use an app more, they will get more money. It’s pretty much a Kindle Unlimited deal, without any extra charges.

Underground apps

The games and apps included in this new program are not just leftovers but hot apps and tools that would drain your wallet on Google Play Store. Now they will be completely free to Underground users. All the apps that are labeled Underground “actually free” will be completely free, in-app purchases and all. Apps without the “actually free” label may present standard IAP.

In order to get this new feature all you have to do is open Amazon Shopping or the Appstore on your device and it should appear as a banner on top prompting you for an installation (You can manually install here). The Shopping app is going to be replaced by the Amazon Underground one and the Appstore one will still include cross-app links.

Yu Yureka Plus to launch in India on July 24th

Yu Yureka Plus is on its way to the Indian market and it will launch on July 24th. Yu, a subsidiary from Micromax, launched its first smartphone last year, and now it is ready to launch a slightly better version of the same phone. Coincidentally, it will also be much more expensive than its first iteration.

Yu Yureka

Just like it happened with the previous device, Yu Yureka Plus will launch running on the latest Cyanogen OS version (Lollipop). This is one of the few notable changes made to the device. It still has a Snapdragon 610 paired with 2 GB of RAM but it did change its display to a full HD resolution from720p. The screen maintains a 5.5 inch size but the slightly higher pixel density will be noticed by some. The battery also doesn’t change (2500 mAh capacity).

Yu Yureka Plus features

The final change is the new camera, a Sony IMX214 CMOS sensor with 5p Largan Blue Lens at the resolution of 13MP.

Fortuitously, the price bump is not huge, as the device will sell for 9,999 Indian Rupees, which means $157, a raise from $142 or 8,999 Indian Rupees for the previous model. This smartphone is supposed to replace the previous one and it will start selling on July 24th. Until then, possible customers can go to Amazon and register there for a Yu Yureka Plus.
