[Free app of the week] Microsoft Translator instantly translates your words into over 50 languages

Microsoft Translator is a new app that was launched on the Android platform today. It seems that Microsoft likes to branch out on all sorts of platforms in order to get more out of the niche market and increase its fan base. The app basically lets you communicate with the phone in order to get translations and it also presents support for Android gear!       Microsoft Translator helps users translate to and from over 50 languages, including popular and particularly difficult or unusual languages: Spanish, German, Urdu, Greek, Hungarian, or French are just a few examples. In order to start the app you have to tap on the microphone to speak or use the keyboard and it will instantly translate your words. In order for this magic to take its course you will need an Internet connection.   The app from Microsoft supports text-to-speech in some languages and it takes over your screen in a full screen mode to facilitate your reading or showing other people your translations.   Microsoft Translator‘ s Android Wear support function allows users to get translations on their wrists as well! You can find the app in the Google Play store where it is free.

AT&T purchase of DirecTV facilitates launch of new TV wireless package

AT&T will launch its own TV wireless package sometime in the near future, reports say. This decision comes right after the US carrier finished its acquisition of satellite TV driving force DirecTV. The launch of this telecom giant’s new nationwide packages of TV and wireless services will begin on August 10.     This is not the first time bundles such as this show up but it is the first time one provider offers them after purchasing another service company. AT&T’s offer includes HD and DVR services for up to four TV receivers and support for DirecTV and AT&T’s U-verse where it is possible. The features also include unlimited talking and texting for up to four wireless lines and 10GB of data for $200 a month. For this money you also get basic video services if you are new U-verse and DirecTV customers. The company says that this way you are saving up to $600 in the first year.   New AT&T DirecTV customers will also get access to TV channels on their mobile devices in an attempt to promote AT&T’s walk out and watch TV experience. Customers will choose from a variation of video packages available in most of the US states.   The acquisition of DirecTV made AT&T the largest pay TV provider in the world and in the US, as the media titan already has more than 55 million subscribers in the US, Caribbean and Latin America. These numbers will only increase in the next month.   Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Facebook Messenger update – send friends your location via messages

Facebook Messenger is updated again today and it is getting something interesting (read easier to stalk) for most of us. Unlike its Facebook app, the Messenger is actually getting changed for the better and the most recent change is the feature of allowing users to send a location to friends via messages. The thing is, it does not have to be the location you’re at, it can be any location.     Using location on Messenger is still optional and this does not change how your location data is used by the app. Location sharing is bound to appear in the menu with the usual add-ons. When you tap on it you will be able to choose to share your location or other places nearby.

Facebook Messenger app video calling feature is finally available worldwide

Facebook is one of the most popular social media platforms out there, so every little change must be calculated. When the Messenger app received video calling in select countries, everyone else wanted it. The time has come and you can now video call with people via Facebook on your mobile device.     However, Facebook did not list the included countries but mentioned the video calling service will be available everywhere there’s quality internet infrastructure available. There have been reports saying that people from Romania, Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates or Sri Lanka don’t have the service yet and official employees responded by saying that local operators are blocking the service. If you don’t have video calling on the Facebook Messenger app, it could be your local operator’s fault. There is no need for an update to the app if you already have the latest version of the Messenger app.   [googleplay url=”https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.facebook.orca&hl=en”]   Source: AndroidPolice
