HTC One M8 will get Android M update, HTC execs say

If you have an HTC One M8 lying around wishing you got some love from the devs at Android, wait no longer because it’s been made official that the 2014 flagship will get updated to the M Android version; when it launches that is. Mo Versi is the one who made the announcement in a response to a Twitter question, so it’s as official as it gets.

Previously, Jeff Gordon, another executive from HTC, announced that M will be released for One M9 and M9+ with more devices to follow. It appears that last year’s flagship will be one of these followers, as expected.

If the launch of Android M will follow the same timeline as Lollipop, it should arrive sometime around the end of the year, when M8 will be almost 2 years old. Considering the fact that HTC usually updates its devices as old as two years, M8 is clearly covered.

HTC One M8 EYE on sale in China!

HTC One M8 EYE can now be found on the market! On the Chinese market to be exact. A few weeks ago, the Internet flamed with rumors regarding an updated HTC M8 with a 13 MP camera, but then all western dreams were crushed when we found out the device would be a China and India exclusive.

The new EYE is now available for sale in China and it will soon be imported to India as well. No new news regarding the other half of the world however.

On an up note, all of the recent HTC devices got better cameras with more pixels involved. The new Desire EYE has much of the M8 hardware specs plus not one but TWO 13 MP cameras. Let’s hope HTC continues with this trend and its next flagship will have potent cameras as well.

Be careful when you attempt to root your Verizon HTC One M8 as you may void the warranty, especially since you will be using tools such as WeakSauce M8 Root or Firewater S-Off. TWRP root can be installed via fastbot, ADB or through the GooManager App you can find on Android.

Those who prefer ClockWork Mod recovery can try this unofficial build that was recently made available.
