HTC Desire T7 spotted in benchmarks; cancellation imminent?

HTC Desire T7 may be the next device to come out of HTC’s warehouses. Scarce are the chances when an unannounced device manages to surprise the public, and T7 wanted to be one of these devices, but alas, Internet strikes again and its hyperactive users manage to spot it on GFXBench. This is in fact a tablet with a 6.9-inch screen coming from the OEM in the near future. It has the model number HTC IV5001-A and it may sell at $170, if previous rumors are to be believed.

The information comes from GFXBench, where more details regarding the device have been revealed. Even if the device has a 6.9-inch screen, it resolution will only be at 720×1280. Under the chassis you will find a Spreadtrum SC8830 processor running at 1.3GHz paired with a Mali 400 MP2 GPU.

You get 1 GB of RAM plus 16GB of internal storage and 5MP cameras on the front and back.

HTC Desire T7 has modest specs and its price is confirming its imminent appearance on emerging markets where the price is more important than anything. With the Mobile World Congress starting next month, we are sure to see this tablet in Barcelona.

A curious piece of information that surfaced just after the GFXBench info comes from China and it mentions the cancellation of the device. It is very curious how the device showed up in benchmarks one day and it was announced as canceled the next. Let’s hope the device will not be buried forever!

Acer announces Iconia One 8, a budget-friendly tablet set to hit the US next month

Acer just announced a new budget-friendly tablet from the Iconia series. Iconia One 8 is one of the cheaper tablets out there and it will reach North America next month, when it will get the price tag of $99. if that’s not cheap for a tablet, what is?

Acer Iconia One 8

What does $99 get you in a tablet?

Acer Iconia One 8 is a weak tablet with a large screen, but what can more you expect for the price? It’s still good enough for kids and the usual browsing, video watching and occasional games. Iconia One 8 spec list:

  • 8-inch HD screen at 1280x800p
  • MediaTek quad-core processor
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 16GB of storage plus a microSD slot
  • 4600 mAh battery
  • Android 5.1.

Don’t hope for an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow either; Acer doesn’t usually get the Android update treatment to its devices very fast; plus, this is a cheap device. Few OEMs actually update their cheaper devices anymore. Acer mentions some software features that could make up for the lack of Android 6.0, if you choose not to look that way. EZ WakeUp allows users to double-tap the screen in order to wake up to a specified app. EZ Snap allows users to use a three-finger pinch for screenshots and the system doctor lets you manage app memory. Additionally, you get a pre-loaded kids UI that will help you set things up for your kids easier.

Acer Iconia One 8 will be available in the Middle East, Asia and Europe first, with prices starting at around 129 euros. Next month is will also arrive in the US, where it will cost only $99. with its unimpressive specs, this tablet is quite a bargain for your younger children that don’t desire an expensive iPad yet!

Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 – new cheap tablet to upgrade the first Mi Pad

Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 is a new tablet coming from this Chinese manufacturer, and it was shown off for the first time earlier this week, along with the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. This is an upgrade from the previous Mi Pad device, a 7.9-inch tablet launched a while back.

What makes Mi Pad 2 so special? Well, for starters, its price! This tablet will sell for $156 in China, where it is available at the moment. It looks pretty good for a cheap Android tablet, but it has nothing out of the ordinary aesthetically speaking. There is one thing though, you can upgrade the storage space from 16GB to 64GB (this model sells for $203) and this model will also let you choose between the Android OS variant and the Windows 10 one. Although many may want to try the Windows 10 interface in order to be able to stream Xbox One games from the living room, most still prefer Google’s mobile alternative because of its functionality (and lack of keyboards or styluses could factor in).

Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 specs:

  • 7.9-inch 1536 x 2048p display
  • quad-core Intel Atom X5-Z8500 processor
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 16/ 64 GB storage with microSD slot
  • Android OS/ Optional Windows 10; with MIUI 7
  • 8 MP primary camera
  • 5MP secondary camera
  • 6190 mAh battery.

Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 will be available in dark grey and champagne gold color variants. We have no info on when the tablet will be available in the western world yet.
