This first build brings about some bugs as well, including the camera not working and a defect in the video playback color calibration. The build itself comes from scstar6696, a senior dev on XDA, where you will find the complete tutorial to what you have to and what you MUST NOT do in order to get AOSP on your Xperia Z2. Verizon’s Xperia Z2 tablet gets OTA with PS4 remote play support and other changes

Verizon’s Xperia Z2 tablet is getting an OTA update with PS4 remote play support and a few other small changes. From now on you can remotely play games on your Verizon Sony Xperia tablet so you better push that “update now” button!

Xperia Z2 tablet

In order to be able to try Play Station 4 games remotely on your tablet over your home WiFi network, you will need to get the official Remote Play app and a Dual Shock 4 controller.

This OTA brings the device to version 23.0.E.0.208 and it also includes improved support for TalkBack, a better performance for users who encrypt their device and optimized touch sensitivity. You will also spot small differences with icons, layouts and fonts, but they won’t be crucial to the overall experience.

The OTA does not update the Android version apparently, as the Xperia Z2 tablet retains its 4.4 build from July last year. The update will go out in batches so you may have to wait for a few hours or even days before it’s your device’s turn. Remember that any root modifications can make the update difficult or even impossible.

Sony releases source code and binaries for more Xperia devices

Sony seems to like custom ROMs and anything that has to do with them and now it has released AOSP Lollipop source codes and binaries for its Xperia Z line. After they showed that the Android 5.0 stock version runs on most Xperia Z3, Sony has posted the source code and binaries for the Xperia Z3, Z2, Z1, Z1 Compact and Z3 Compact.

Devs can now use the kernel source to build their own stock Android versions for the aforementioned devices. Of course, they can use the source code to create their own custom ROMs. The binaries include different features and tools to make the hardware work without being dependent to Sony’s custom Android version.

If you’re interested in the source code and binaries, you can go to Sony’s dev page where you will find the ZIP file worth 90 MB. Don’t forget that, in order to flash a ROM to your Xperia, you will have to unlock the bootloader.
