HTC One M8 will get Android M update, HTC execs say

If you have an HTC One M8 lying around wishing you got some love from the devs at Android, wait no longer because it’s been made official that the 2014 flagship will get updated to the M Android version; when it launches that is. Mo Versi is the one who made the announcement in a response to a Twitter question, so it’s as official as it gets.

Previously, Jeff Gordon, another executive from HTC, announced that M will be released for One M9 and M9+ with more devices to follow. It appears that last year’s flagship will be one of these followers, as expected.

If the launch of Android M will follow the same timeline as Lollipop, it should arrive sometime around the end of the year, when M8 will be almost 2 years old. Considering the fact that HTC usually updates its devices as old as two years, M8 is clearly covered.

AT&T’s HTC One M8 gets update to Android Lollipop 5.0

AT&T is upgrading its devices, particularly HTC One M8, to Android Lollipop 5.0. The announcement was made via Twitter by Mo Versi, the Vice President of Product Management, who said that the Lollipop flavor is coming to HTC’s last year flagship as soon as today.

The start was given at 10 AM PST and you can now firmly push your update button to get it.

The update does not; we repeat DOES NOT, have Sense 7.0, but this upgrade will come with the next update. At least you’re getting Lollipop, right? The OTA will come in waves, which means it could be a day or two before it reaches you.

Official TWRP support for HTC One M9 and One M8 is live!

TWRP is officially supported by HTC One M9. When you finally get to buy one, you won’t have to worry about not being able to get custom recovery for it anymore. One M8 is also getting official support now.

HTC M9

Why do you need custom recovery you ask? Because by installing such a thing would help you flash anything you want on a device, such as ROMs, roots and more. You are able to flash a recovery to TWRP when you have an unlocked bootloader. How to get that when your device is locked varies according to carrier and device.

Don’t forget to be careful when you flash stuff on your device, you don’t know when bad luck could pop!

T Mobile’s HTC One M8 updates to Lollipop on Monday, HTC product manager says

T Mobile’s HTC One M8 is getting its Lollipop update as soon as Monday. It’s gotta be true if Mo Versi, HTC product manager, posted it on Twitter. The company is trying very hard to attempt to bring its devices to Lollipop as soon as possible, even if certain US carrier versions take more time to update than others.

HTC one M8

The OTA update files get sent to the first batch of One M8 units on Monday February 9th, which means that, at late as February 13th, your T Mobile One M8 should be updated to Lollipop. T Mobile HTC One M7 is still late to the Lollipop party, but considering that the One M8 AT&T and Verizon versions are still on KitKat, this is a good sign things are developing well on the T Mobile front.

WeakSauce 2: The Habanero Revenge update – easy rooting for Verizon devices

The root tool WeakSauce launched in March is receiving an update for Android 4.4.4, and it can now root HTC One M7, One M8, Droid DNA and others. The new update will root almost all HTC devices on Verizon that run on Android 4.4.4 and lower.

The update is named WeakSauce 2: The Habanero Revenge, it is free and it is easy to use. All you have to do is install the apk from XDA and run it to root your phone. After the install is finished, you can install SuperSU and you’re good to go. This is not a permanent root solution, as it will de-root when you reboot your device.

The current release is already known to have issues such as Superuser binaries being out of date which means they cannot be replaced via the automated method ( it results in showing a message you can ignore until it will be fixed) and ART does not work well with WeakSauce.

Sunshine bootloader is not compatible with Verizon HTCs at the moment, but as soon as 2015 hits, the unlocking tool will be updated.

T Mobile’s HTC One M8 gets OTA update to Android 4.4.4; Eye experience included

T Mobile’s HTC One M8 is receiving an OTA to Android 4.4.4 with the Eye experience. Apart from getting the update to the most recent and stable Android version, T Mobile’s HTC version will be getting the Eye experience as well.

The Eye experience is a feature bundle that includes Face Tracking, the facility to keep tabs on up to four faces on a video chat at the same time and it even shows them on split screen. A much more fun feature is Face Fusion, where users are allowed to blend their face with another person’s appearance, a useful feature especially for parents who want to know what their future kids may look like.

Split Capture, another useful feature, will let you record what is going on through both cameras at the same time, offering a unique view of what you are filming and of what your face looks like when you film funny (or scary) stuff.

The full OTA update is 256MB large and will arrive in waves, so you may have to wait a little before you get yours.
