Ember’s Journey – a different platformer in the Google Play store

Ember’s Journey is a new platformer game you will find in the Google PlayStore, but it is not just another mobile game. This one has a special premise that may change your perspective on life. In most games you can see where you are going, but in this game you will not be able to do that. It may seem like a problem to you but it is actually a part of the game that you will get used to.

Ember's Journey

Gameplay

In Ember’s Journey you have to navigate through the darkness with your light box avatar. You will find many ways to solve puzzles and many ways to die in the process, as the only light that will guide you will be the one emanated by the avatar.

If you could see an entire level of the game at once, it would turn out to be a basic platformer. This way however, you have to pay attention to details as you glimpse them. Will you jump on a ledge or fall to a bottomless pit in the process? Pay attention!

Your goal through each level is to reach the light exit marker, your secondary light source of every level. You have 76 levels to explore and each has its own labyrinth and tricky puzzles.

Ember’s Journey is not free, but once you pay for it you will never have to pay for anything else as you get no in-app purchase pop-ups. Take a look at it below:

[Free app of the week] Microsoft Translator instantly translates your words into over 50 languages

Microsoft Translator is a new app that was launched on the Android platform today. It seems that Microsoft likes to branch out on all sorts of platforms in order to get more out of the niche market and increase its fan base. The app basically lets you communicate with the phone in order to get translations and it also presents support for Android gear!

Mincrosoft translator

Microsoft Translator helps users translate to and from over 50 languages, including popular and particularly difficult or unusual languages: Spanish, German, Urdu, Greek, Hungarian, or French are just a few examples. In order to start the app you have to tap on the microphone to speak or use the keyboard and it will instantly translate your words. In order for this magic to take its course you will need an Internet connection.

The app from Microsoft supports text-to-speech in some languages and it takes over your screen in a full screen mode to facilitate your reading or showing other people your translations.

Microsoft Translator‘ s Android Wear support function allows users to get translations on their wrists as well! You can find the app in the Google Play store where it is free.

Microsoft Android Emulator available as standalone with support for Android Studio and Eclipse

Microsoft recently released an Android Emulator that can be used with Android Studio and Eclipse with ADT. A while back, Microsoft launched a new emulator destined for features and performance that cannot be found anywhere else. It was not very successful because it had to be downloaded and installed with a Visual Studio package – a very large package – and it was pretty much difficult to use with other IDEs.

Android Emulator

Now, Microsoft released the Android Emulator as a standalone download accompanied by instructions to install and run with Android Studio and Eclipse with ADT. This emulator will require the device to have a version of Windows with Hyper-V support (for example Microsoft 8 Pro and Enterprise).

This Microsoft emulator does not include Google Play services, which means that lots of applications cannot be used without modifications. You can, however, test an app built without Play services integration if you want.

The Android Emulator package from Microsoft includes the emulator itself and some KitKat service profiles. After you set it up, you can download profiles from the profile Manager. You can find the instructions for Android Studio and Eclipse from the source link below.

HBO NOW app available on Google Play Store – no love for rooted devices though

HBO NOW finally reached the Google Play Store, but if you want to use it, you will need a clean smartphone or tablet. If you have a rooted device, you will be unable to run the app because you know you’re a pirate and HBO doesn’t like pirates.

HBO NOW

You first get a 30-day free trial of HBO NOW after which you will pay $14.99 a month to legally get full streaming access to all those award-winning TV shows and movies. You don’t need to have a cable subscription for the app to work.  Sadly, you don’t get Chromecast or Android TV support with it.

If you will try to hide the root access, it may or may not work, but if you try to download and use the app regardless, you will find out about the root restriction only when you actually try to open the app. It’s probably easier to just torrent a TV show than to manipulate through the root-iness of your device anyway.
