Gorilla Glass 4 could keep your phone safe from shattering when dropped

Gorilla Glass 4 is next year’s best thing as it appears that the current display technologies will not break under any circumstances. Most smartphone screens resist scratches and minor cracks, but, you know, when you drop your beloved device, you can just see yourself in horror picking up the pieces.

Corning is moving on gradually and its technology is now permitting devices to resist more than just slight scratches. Gorilla Glass 4 is the next step in smartphone evolution. The new cover material is meant to survive collisions with rough surfaces such as your floor, or concrete. It is reportedly very effective too!

According to tests, Corning Gorilla Glass 4 remains intact 80% of the time when dropped from 3.3 feet (1 meter). You shouldn’t just try it every day though, as this extra resistance doesn’t mean your device is the Terminator. It is a good boost which could mean the difference between a costly repair and a regular day moving on after you dropped your phone.

Corning is reporting new deals and new test samples being sent to different manufacturers, so you will be seeing such devices soon. Official customers are not named yet, but considering that many of the PC, tablet and smartphone manufacturers already use Gorilla Glass, the most famous brands will be there. Your next gadget could be sporting a Gorilla Glass 4 protection as soon as next year and let’s hope you won’t have to find that out the hard way.
