Nikon COOLPIX S810C – a new digital camera running on Android

Nikon COOLPIX S810C is a brand new camera device that may pass as a sort of a tablet as well! Just because you can’t make calls with it doesn’t mean it’s not a useful phoneish device! This Android powered camera is one of the few new gadgets that can make your days better. It runs on Android 4.2.2 and can take the obvious pictures, play music or post tweets for example.

On the niche market, smartphones are trying to take over the usual picture taking tasks and emphasize their super cameras, but on the long run, smartphones just can’t beat dedicated digital cameras. This little monster has a 16 MP BSI CMOS sensor that can range ISO settings up to 3200. The 12x optical zoom is able to cover up to 25mm wide angle shots and can give good 300mm telephoto angle images.

As is the case with many digital cameras of the new generation, Nikon COOLPIX S810C has a companion app that can be used for transferring photos and videos to smartphones or tablets, or can be used for sharing on various social networks.

Thanks to the new Wi Fi connection, the device can connect to different services and dedicated sites, mostly because of the various Android apps found on the Google store. The camera can become a little smartphone on its own, except for the fact that it cannot make or receive phone calls. Nikon COOLPIX has built-in GPS that helps in geotagging photos and in finding your way home.

The device has a 3.7-inch VGA display – not a very good one – that can help you check your emails, browse the web or Android it out with various apps. A very interesting app made for this camera is the ability to make 400 character long comments on taken photos that can be uploaded online or seen in a Twitter-esque note.

This little digital shooter is available in white and black, and it will begin selling sometimes during May. It has a price tag of $349.95, which is not much, but not little. Most mobile photographers will be interested in this little potent device that runs on Android.
